Getting Back to Basics and Getting Them Right

Here in Renfrew County, we must focus on getting back to the basics and getting them right! Health Care, Education, and Infrastructure have always been the backbone of our local economy and I believe that Renfrew County has been left on the backburner for far too long by governments down in Toronto. This election is our opportunity to fight for Renfrew County and to make the lives of our constituents better across the riding. Below are my priorities for our region.

Fully Funded Public Health Care For All

  • Providing every resident with a family physician and allied health professionals to keep them healthy.
  • Reducing wait times for all health care services including in the emergency room and for diagnostic services.
  • Improving access to mental health services and home and community care so that anyone can access the programs and services that would allow them to recover and continue to be contributing members of society.

Rebuilding Our Public Education System

  • Working with school boards and education partners to implement smaller class sizes, particularly for younger grades.
  • Providing more classroom supports for all students, especially those with special needs.
  • Investing in our crumbling school infrastructure so that students have physical spaces that are conducive to learning and the use of portables can be limited across our region.

Building The Infrastructure of the Future

  • Investing in our community infrastructure (highways, bridges, water/wastewater infrastructure, cellular and broadband internet).
  • Prioritizing the four-laning of Highway 17 to Renfrew (and throughout the Ottawa Valley) and making necessary temporary safety improvements along the highway until it can be permanently twinned.
  • Growing Renfrew County’s economy by investing in rural economic development projects that put our industries first.

Making Life More Affordable

  • Cutting the income tax rate by 2% for middle-class income earners making between $51,446 and $75,000 per year
  • Removing the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) on hydro and home heating bills.
  • Reducing small business taxes by 50% because small businesses are the backbone of our local economy.
  • Putting a stop to the Doug Ford-sponsored profiteering like Greenbelt Scandal and Ontario Place.
Leading community conversations on the intertwined issues of poverty, income insecurity and housing with the Town of Arnprior Ad Hoc Committee on Poverty and Homelessness.
Speaking with a local farmer during the 2022 Provincial Election after learning more about their operations and how they want to work alongside the Government of Ontario to build more sustainable agriculture for future generations.
Sandbagging for local residents during one of the last flooding events. Sadly, the Township of McNab/Braeside has been hit hard with flooding events over the last 6-7 years and it took a community effort to get sandbags ready for those in need.

    1. Thank you for the question, Gary. I agree that the consumer carbon tax should be eliminated and our party is committed to building a made-in-Ontario climate strategy that aims to reduce emissions while not putting more strain on pocketbooks. This can be done with investments in energy efficiency, sustainable infrastructure and working with industry to identify opportunities to reduce their carbon footprint (including agriculture where there is significant potential for innovative projects). To be clear, Bonnie Crombie and our Ontario Liberal team have committed that we will not support support a consumer carbon tax in Ontario. We are only in this position with the federal backstop because Doug Ford eliminated our existing climate plan and failed to create a new plan that met federal guidelines for emission reductions.
